According to several sources, Boston has agreed so ship Courtney Lee to Memphis in exchange for guard Jerryd Bayless.
The C's have pursued Bayless for the past 2 seasons, and have finally acquired him. He is only 25 years old and is $ 4M cheaper than Lee. Bayless has averaged 8.0 PPG, 2 APG, and 1.9 RPG in 20.8 minutes of action this season.
The Grizzles have cap space to absorb a bigger contract as they have a $ 7.5M trade exception from the Rudy Gay trade. Lee will be bringing a veteran presence to Memphis and great perimeter shooting. He is also known for his great defense having joined Avery Bradley as "The Pitbulls of TD Garden" during his time in Green.
The Celtics have been trying to get rid of Lee these past few days due to his contract. He is owned 11M over the next 2 years. Lee has averaged 7.4 PPG, 1.1 APG, and 1.4 RPG in 16.8 minutes of actions this year. He is unlikely to play today against OKC.
I was a big fan of Courtney Lee, but Jerryd Bayless has been one of my favorite players since his Portland days. I like this trade for the Green since they absorb a much cheaper contract while maintaining the same level of play.
