On their NBA preview series in which they rank every team in the NBA, Bill Simmons and Jalen Rose ranked the Boston Celtics #24 in the league. The video is very interesting and entertaining, with cool graphics and mini segments like "Champagning and Campaigning" with Jalen Rose and "The Clairvoyent Bill". Rose and Simmons agree and disagree about various things regarding the Celtics. Bill thinks that the Celtics will ship Rondo before the All-Star break and he will only play 30 games or less.
On some of the other videos, Jalen and Bill agreed that players like Rudy Gay, Anderson Varejao, and Pau Gasol are on every team's trade radar. And of course, every team that doesn't have a chance at the title wants a lottery pick. I predict that the playoff teams this year will be the weakest teams in a long time and there will be no upsets in the playoffs. Teams like the Bucks and Wizards could make the playoffs this year and would have no shot to advance into the second round. That's the worst possible situation for any team this year in a loaded 2014 NBA draft class that will include the University of Kansas freshman Andrew Wiggins, who recently graced the cover of Sports Illustrated.
The Celtics are probably going to see how they are playing in the first month of the season and if they play how they should judging by their roster, they will be terrible. You may be asking, "Why are you so urgent to get rid of Rondo? He's a good player!". Well, I believe that the Celtics are championship or bust every year and they should be. This year, if Rondo plays and Boston doesn't get rid of him, they would be somewhere in between which is bad, especially this year. If we aren't going to win the championship this year, which we have ZERO chance at, we might as well blow it up and get a lottery pick. Get as many future picks, blue-chippers, and prospects as you can. I think in their efforts to tank, I predict the Boston Celtics will send Rondo to Toronto. The only thing stopping that is if Rajon Rondo loves his new coach Brad Stevens as much as he has said so far.
Rondo on Stevens: "We're best friends".
Another team that could tank or try to make a run is Cleveland. Because God hates Cleveland, I think the Cavs will decide to try to make a run at the title by swapping some players for Rudy Gay in hopes for a versatile small forward. But the trade will come back to bite them in the butt just like everything that happens to Cleveland. They will be one and done in the playoffs this year if Andrew Bynum can is able to play at a high level in at least 60 games this season.
I constructed a trade on ESPN's NBA Trade Machine that makes sense for the teams involved in the trade for various reasons. The Cavs are trying to get over the top, the Raptors are trying to dump Rudy Gay's salary, and the Celtics are trying to tank and get rid of Gerald Wallace's disgusting contract. Here it is.
Another trade that might work that gets rid of Rajon Rondo is with the Washington Wizards. But this one is even less likely and doesn't make as much sense for both teams.
